Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Stepping into a new classroom, a new grade, a new family is daunting. It's also exciting! My return to NES comes mid-year after a fall spent about an hour away. The community that my students live in can be high needs and yet, you will find some of the most resilient, kind, funny, energetic, and, most importantly, eager-to-learn students who are willing to climb mountains to learn.

Our class motto this year is TRY: Take Chances, Risk it, and Make Mistakes, and Yearn to do better than Yesterday.

Despite obstacles that would be too much for many adults, they remain bright, funny, and fun-loving, and they really enjoy the safety and security that school brings. Our school not only keeps the kids safe, but it's a place where learning comes alive. It's a building steeped in passion and excitement and it is my hope to continue to create a space that is safe, exciting, and educational!

My Project

When I was little, the BEST BEST BEST experiences I can recall are during the summer months, picnic blanket in hand, the summer sun shining, book in hand, cozying up with an author's tale. I grew up to be a VORACIOUS reader because of those sensory memories.

We are SO fortunate to have one grass rug with squishy foam tiles that we LOVE, and we look forward to adding ANOTHER space where students can lay down, read, work together, and have a sensory experience.

Research SHOWS that the more we connect learning with ALL our senses, the deeper and stronger the connections are. The blankets will also allow students to move and find comfort in whatever way is best for their learning.
