Teamwork, collaboration, and a positive atmosphere are our daily goals. My students meet these goals beautifully.
The children have diverse backgrounds and all love making art.
Some are refugees from their native countries and some of them have roots that run deep in the community. All of them love to create and invent.
The students that were refugees were not able to attend school before. Survival was the paramount concern. They are flourishing now. We grow together because we are a team.
Students have enjoyed the limited amount of time we have spent using colored pencils. Sadly, using colored pencils means frequent interruptions to sharpen the pencils.
My goal is for them is to focus on applying layers of color without distraction.
In my research, I have read about the durability of color sticks and the reduced waste. Students will be able to use broad strokes for large areas by turning the stick on its side. And they can still use the texture created by lines of back and forth movement.
Color, texture, value, and lines will be used in this medium.
