This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Walking into our school, you will find a diverse group of kids. Many of my students are English language learners, which means they are learning how to read, write, and speak English.
Our classroom is in an urban environment, filled with kids from all walks of life.
We are a Title I school, and our whole school gets free breakfast and lunch. I have a few students with troubled homes, which makes me work harder to create an environment where every child feels safe and able to learn the skills necessary to be ready for middle school and beyond.
My Project
I have selected a variety of books to go in our classroom library and several book bins that will allow me to easily organize leveled books. Research shows that students are most successful and gain the most benefits from reading when they are selecting and reading books that are exactly at their reading level.
Improving the quality of our classroom library with new books, organized by level, will allow my students to easily select books that interest them at their reading level.
A well organized and leveled library with high interest books will help guide students to choose books that will best improve their independent reading level. Finding the perfect books fosters a love of reading that will benefit students for many years to come.
