This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
My class is made up of 10 students with Autism and other intellectual disabilities in the Transition to Adulthood classroom. We practice and learn a variety of pre-vocation and independent living skills each and every day.
Laundry is one of those independent living skills my students work on!
We often wash clothes (such as our Special Olympics t-shirts) and towels (that we use for clean up with our coffee business). Therefore, we are in need of more laundry supplies to not only continue this task but also make it a more organized and efficient experience. More laundry detergent and dryer sheets would make sure we can continue to get the laundry clean. Additionally, rolling cart for the laundry would be so helpful in being able to roll the laundry from our classroom to the washing machines in the athletic training room! We are also in need of some folding boards in order to adapt the folding process to a level my students can be successful with.
All of these things would ensure they learn and grow in their independent living skills. Simply being able to learn independence with laundry will help them be the best people they can be!
