I teach all core subjects to an exceptional group of "special needs" students in middle school. It is necessary to create a classroom environment that is a comfortable place for kids to learn in a way that they learn best. My goal is to make sure that each and every one of my kiddos experience success both in and out of school. I work with students with a variety of disabilities and needs. I teach moderate intellectual disabilities and some students with severe intellectual disabilities.
The school is one of the best in the community with the goal of helping our students become high achieving individuals.
My students are fun loving! They are hard-working and want to achieve success! Many of these students face daily challenges in their personal lives, yet when they come to school they give their all and always strive to do their best. They want to be independent in their daily lives. I want them to be successful in their future! It is important to offer a multitude of learning styles and materials to assure success.
Whether autistic, ADD/ADHD, OHI, etc. All students have the right to be confident and successful in school.
My Project
The use of laundry pods would increase their independence within the classroom as they practice doing laundry within the classroom. My students have a washing machine and a dryer within the classroom for them to use as needed and to practice their ability to do laundry.
The use of the dryer sheets will also help the students complete the laundry cycle.
At the moment, there is no dryer sheets in use within the classroom. The students also have the large industrial size laundry soap, which does not allow them to pour their own laundry soap. The teachers have started have pods in the classroom for the students to use. The students love the pods, since they feel like they are completing the task independently without the assistance of the teachers.
The goal with them using the pods is to increase their ability to independently complete the laundry task since they will be able to grab a pod and place it into the washer instead of having to pour our liquid within the caps. This will also eliminate the mess or feeling of messing up when they are helping do the laundry task.
