Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hard-working, caring, and kind to one another which makes me proud to be their teacher! I teach in a high poverty school in Chicago. My students love exploring the world around them! They are builders, authors, creators, artists, scientists, inventors, and entrepreneurs!
When given a challenge, my students dominate the competition!
They are a determined group of learners that rely on their creativity, teamwork skills, and hard work to maximize all learning opportunities!
Many of my students come from families that speak multiple languages and for almost half my class English is their second language. My diverse group of learners is what makes our classroom so special because we get to learn so much from one another by celebrating and sharing our differences!
My Project
At times, a broken pencil in our classroom represents the frustration my students have for writing. Words can be unclear and too difficult to understand. However, creating storyboards can help to make the literature we read along with my students' own stories come to life! Let's face it, sometimes our stories from our basal reader are disengaging and I want to grab the attention of my students in making the stories fly off the page and into their minds in a clear and visual way.
My students have many talents and as their teacher, it is important that they are given opportunities to shine daily in our classroom.
Help me give my students Rocketbooks and retractable erasable pens so they can draw, write, and explore making their notes digital so they can keep all their work in an electronic portfolio. My students need "artist" ball chairs so they can be comfortable during the writing process, along with feeling "special" in the artist chair while presenting their storyboards to the class.
Additionally, my students also need oil pastels, finger puppets, flipside dry erase boards, dry erase markers, and color paper so that can explore and recreate the story scenes from our text.
Lastly, my students need artist's adhesive mount spray and tape so they can hang their storyboards and creations they make to help with their reading comprehension and let their artistry shine through!
