This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My favorite quote is: "The more you give, the more you get." I am trying to instill this philosophy of the greater good and how if you give more to something the more you will get out of it.
Our school is a STEAM school.
We strive to incorporate innovative and new ideas into learning, while trying to build some of the old standards, like band. My students are excited about learning to play instruments and working together in band. They love music and are really enjoying band and STOMP (which is our new curriculum utilizing trash cans and buckets to create music in an ensemble).
My Project
We are starting a band and STOMP program at our school. Band has been absent from the school for about 9 years. With the set of band books and supplies, like reeds and mallets, we can learn notes more quickly and be able to perform the songs that we really would like to learn.
My students are true "band nerds" at heart and are embracing the experience of a band family.
For some of these kids, band is the safe place for them to nurture the friendships that will last a lifetime. We are learning to work together and to look out for each other.
