This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a majority Latino population, most are first, second and third generation from recently immigrated families. We have over 70% free or reduced price lunch provided for our students. We have a shockingly sizable homeless student population.

I have 37 kids in one of my Drama Classes, many are new to the country, to English and the class itself as I have taken problem students from other classes, all in these categories could not care less about my class at this point and this is why I need your help; Help me give them what they have chosen to do based on interest in the field of performance, so I may better help them and their classmates moving forward.

The school is improving yearly in all regards recently, while still helping new immigrant children in developing themselves and assisting their families in supporting them, developing the community in turn. All despite the school and area having been known for gang, crime and violence issues for many years. Giving unenthusiastic at risk students access to their personal elective choices within their given elective will continue this trend maybe even make it more accelerated!

My Project

With 37 students in one of my Drama classes and a large population of students with no interest across the board; I have been hard pressed to provide effectively all sides of my student population with valuable skills and knowledge appropriate to their situation. I just recently struck an idea.

My students must pick from 13 theater performance related jobs three favorites, then go through resume creation and interviews, and then work the job they earned; I need your help getting things like SHANY Carry All Makeup Train Case with Pro Makeup and Reusable Aluminum Case and Bellrino 30" Cosmetology Mannequin Manikin Training Head with Synthetic Fiber with Table Clamp Holder so I can give them the training they have begged for, hair and make-up training, in tandem with the content they showed interest in; not only that i can embed it into the curriculum!

In addition, our project base is Chicano theater and it’s interwoven relationship with protest. The students have selected modern Chicano issue to create their pieces about. This will be the first Chicano centered or Latin American centered project in the schools history.
