This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The project will meet the particular needs of my students as it will increase student participation during Physical Education class. Having enough equipment for each student to use will decrease negative student behaviors as they will not be waiting for turns to play. Based on the 2008 Physical Activity guidelines for Americans it is recommended that children and adolescents engage in 60 minutes or more of physical activity every day. Most of the 60 minutes should be either moderate or vigorous intensity aerobic physical activity. Eliminating or shortening wait time to participate in PE class will help meet these recommendations.

By purchasing updated equipment and enough for the students to participate students will have access to various games and activities they may not normally participate in.

Both the Surgeon General and CDC recommend that schools provide students opportunities to become physically educated and enjoy moving. Students who participate in quality physical education programs receive a variety of benefits in the areas of movement skills, physical conditioning, and knowledge so they can develop strategies and tactics to lead a physically active lifestyle.

Physical education standards for students in Grades K through 5 all have Indicators on Moderate to Vigorous physical activity, establishing healthy activity patterns and values and self management skills (demonstrate ways to be physically active during the day). With new equipment students will be able to exceed these standards and increase their physical fitness levels.
