My Students

Can you imagine being a 5th grader and never having access to a computer in school? My students need your help. They need a classroom that has the technology suitable to prepare them for the 21st Century.

I am a teacher in a public school that is located in an urban district.

My classroom consists of 21 students, 17 of which are English Language Learners. My students all have varying levels of English ranging from completely understanding spoken and written English, to not understanding any English at all. The majority of the students are Spanish speaking and are embracing the opportunity of helping their peers learn how to speak and write in English. My students have very little access to technology within our school. Our school has only one working computer lab for over 700 students K-8 and no computer teacher.

My Project

I am requesting three laptops for my classroom. If my project is funded I will be able to have a rotating schedule for students to work on math skills, or various ESL and reading programs. Our reading program has leveled readers available for students to follow along on the computer while they are read aloud to them. My English Language Learners would benefit from having the materials read aloud to them. I am also able to create tests and quizzes that they can take on-line. This will allow me to monitor their progress better. My students will be able to learn at their own rate while I monitor their progress and adjust the skills they are working on during independent work time. They will also be able to use the laptops to do research and create presentations in social studies and science. Also, the laptops will allow my students to word process their final drafts in writing. This will be amazing for my special education students receiving occupational therapy for writing impairments.

Having three laptops rotating throughout my classroom will drastically improve my students' education.

These laptops will help me make sure my students have access to the technology that is essential to being a student in the 21st Century. I believe my students will be more motivated to improve their skills. Please support my project.
