This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am so excited to be partnering with local tech professionals to offer my students AP Computer Science A next year. Student advocacy to bring technology education to campus was the impetus for finding this partnership. I am inspired by my students' vision.

My students are already using resources, like Code Academy, to learn the basics of programming.

In addition, students have applied and been accepted to top-rated technology summer programs, like Girls Who Code, an introductory Java program at Stanford, and an engineering program at Santa Clara. I want to build on this enthusiasm in and outside of the classroom. Many of my students do not have a laptop to use to practice; they are missing out on valuable practice time by not having easy access to technology.

My Project

I want to level the playing field for my students by providing three Acer laptops for the duration of the time that they are enrolled in AP Computer Science A. AP Computer Science requires significant practice, and my students are up to the challenge. I know that these computers would be used daily. I expect that students will code on them for 2-3 hours daily. They would also be used to manage their other school work -- all of which they need and deserve.

These computers could be the difference between students being prepared for the AP Computer Science A exam, and their first year in college, versus them lacking practice.

Daily access to computers will change my students lives for the better. Please help them increase their digital literacy and make them more competitive and prepared for their future.
