My students need consistent access to computers in order to individualize their learning, connect to communities outside of their community, and become technologically savvy in order to be successful in their future.
I teach at a Title I school in Oregon where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
I teach in a very rural area and our current computer/chrome carts have many computers in need of replacement.
Most of our carts do not have enough computers to give each student a computer when I check out the cart. My students take state testing on computers, will need to be very familiar with technology in order to be successful in high school and college and their future. Many students have the potential to be first generation college students.
My Project
My long-term goal is to have a class set of Chromebooks that my students can access anytime throughout the school day for various projects/assignments.
Starting a classroom library of Chromebooks will give my students an opportunity to have constant access to technology.
My students would not have use computers with missing keys and would be able to individualize their learning everyday, instead of once a week when I can check out the computer cart.
My students need more access to technology to collaborate, create, communicate and use critical thinking. I really try to prepare my students so that they can perform at a higher level, and by having more technology, I will be able to integrate technology more often like: Google Classroom, Khan Academy, online videos linked to their Math curriculum, typing practice, coding, and video chatting peers in other cities/states.
