My Project
Students whose families migrate to the United States often times come with little more than the clothes on their back. They're then put into a school system that cannot provide them with the resources that they need to succeed, such as technology, resources that native students' parents can usually provide them without problem.
Providing immigrant and refugee children with laptops, children whose parents might otherwise not be able to provide for them, will provide equity in the classroom by giving them the tools they need to succeed and compete.
Laptops will help students complete class and homework assignments. laptops are also a great resource in helping students learn English as it provides tools to translate documents and spoken words. There are other programs available through them that teach English language proficiency. The goal is to make these available to the students that need them most.
Helping immigrant and refugee children learn English helps protect them. By helping them understand the language it helps them to understand what people are trying to do for them and trying to do to them. It is not only essential to learn the language but to find employment, to provide for themselves, and in order to hear about or apply for job opportunities, they must have access to technology.
