Laptops are a Lifeline

Help me give my students these HP laptops which will be used in general and special education classrooms on a daily basis.

My Students

ODCS serves high-need students in K-8 who do not fit in a larger public school environment. Over 50% of the students at our school qualify for free and reduced lunch and the target population is rural Marana including Picture Rocks, Avra Valley and Red Rock. Unlike many other charter schools, ODCS accepts ALL students and has a special education population of 21% compared to the state average at most public schools of about 11%. Oour school also serves the families with additional parent resources, family nights, and other family strengthening opportunities.

Currently enrollment is 150 students that represent about 110 families.

We serve a small, specific rural population of K-8th grade students. Our students come to us from various programs; however, many have failed to flourish in larger, more diverse school populations.

My Project

Our school is a lifeline for the students and families served. The small, intimate environment equally involves students, staff, parents, and families. The student to teacher ratio is low (25:1) which promotes a more personal school culture. ODCS serves youth that may have fallen through the cracks at larger schools or districts and because of its free after-school program, Friendly Faces, the school is fulfilling a vital role for the kids as well as their parents/guardians, allowing for early drop-off and late pick-up.

There is a dedicated staff on board that embraces the community school model, resulting in high morale and cooperation.

Parents are grateful for peer support and the feeling of being included. We have a strong community within the school, the student-teacher relationships, the lack of bullying, the kindness exhibited by all, and the involvement of families. This environment allows students to thrive and will set them up for educational success and life success.

These laptops will provide our students to fully utilize the wonderful software programs which directly address the required state standards in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
