This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a diverse elementary school serving large numbers of economically disadvantaged children. I am so proud of my students because despite the challenges of learning during the pandemic, they remain steadfast and committed to their education.
We educate over 900 children from pre-K to 5th grade.
This is my 28th year at the school where I teach third grade Spanish in a Dual Language Program (Spanish-English) designed to teach children fluency in both languages. My students come from different backgrounds - some are monolingual, bilingual and ENL (English as a New Language) students.
My Project
I am requesting a laptop I can use to design fun, meaningful and engaging experiences for my students as we continue to march through pandemic teaching and learning. This laptop will also be used in the Research Center in our classroom. With this technology, I will able to incorporate research skills into my students’ lessons in order to better enhance their learning, leading to improved language abilities. It will make complex concepts more accessible and enjoyable and allow my students, a mix of primary English and Spanish speakers from various backgrounds, to learn about new, exciting subjects in a fun, easy way. The Research Center will also allow me to teach the kids how to access on-line resources designed to enhance learning. This will also keep them current with educational applications, which is imperative in our more and more technology-driven world.
