I teach a 2nd grade class at PS 11 in Manhattan, which is located in the heart of Chelsea. Our classroom has one teacher (me) and thirty two large and in charge second graders.
In our classroom we love to read, think, create, and build.
This year we will be learning all about how New York City has changed over the years. We'll be learning how to multiply and divide. We'll also learn about different classifications of rocks and minerals, what makes a plant grow, and the science behind balance and motion.
My Project
Just as notebooks and pens are at an easy disposal for the children these days, so is the need for a laptop in the classroom. My kids will benefit from this computer because they will easily be able to get an answer to any of their questions, watch a video to learn about a topic, or even play a math game to reinforce a strategy we are working on in our daily math workshop. This year I would like the kids to create video diaries on the laptop of the books they are reading. Could you think of a better way to get a recommendation for a book than from watching a short video made by a friend?
