Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This school year I am teaching a fantastic group of diverse fourth graders as a Math teacher in an elementary school in Washington, D.C.
Our school is a highly diverse, Tier 1 DC Public School serving a diverse population of students.
Our students are of primarily Hispanic/Latino and African American backgrounds, and bring with them excitement and joy for learning and contributing to their communities! We serve 100% economically disadvantaged students and a high population of English language learners (ELLs).
I firmly believe that students are worth more than their circumstances dictate. Regardless of their background and home life, they deserve the best. I have seen how much a classroom can transform a student's mindset. I am THRILLED to be able to teach a group of kids who have are so excited to learn.
My Project
My classroom needs eight more computers to make a full classroom set! My class sizes have grown and my students do not have full access to a computer cart. This means they are not all able to access key sites when they need them. Having 1:1 devices will allow me to see flexible groups and still make sure all other students are able to access i-Ready, Reflex Math, Prodigy, and Edulastic when needed. As of now, we have to borrow computers from other classrooms and they are not always available or reliable (old computers need to be continuously plugged into work!).
Please consider helping my students reach their full potential by giving them access to the technology they need!
My students love deepening their math knowledge through visually engaging programs like ST Math and Prodigy, but we often struggle to find enough laptops or tablets that work! With your support, my students can develop vital technology skills, share their learning with others, and critically think about the fast-changing environment around them.
