Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are wonderful, caring, strong leaders. In our school, we work to support, inspire, and encourage all students to strive for academic success as they develop into productive members of society. Science has the ability to excite and amaze students. When students are engaged in a hands-on activity, they are learning without even realizing it! A typical day in my classroom involves my students learning science while working together to solve problems.
My students are an enthusiastic bunch who are hardworking, curious and have a lot of school spirit.
Although we are a small school my students exhibit great pride and passion for achievement. They are willing to give their all to make the school and greater community a better place!
My Project
I am constantly looking for opportunities to develop professionally to better serve my students. Often when I attend professional development, I am the only educator in the room without a laptop to facilitate the learning. Although in my school I have access to laptops and Chromebooks, I am unable to connect school technology to outside networks due to software intended to protect our school's network from viruses. Additionally, the Physics classes I teach and many of the professional development sessions I attend require software that can only run on devices with certain specifications.
This donation will help me gain the most from my professional development activities so I can be the best teacher possible for my students.
I have at least 2 upcoming professional developments scheduled for this year. The professional developments are for best practices in teaching AP Physics and National Science Teacher Association Conference of science education. If I were to receive this donation, I would be able to participate in a hands-on fashion rather than looking over the shoulder of another attendee. I would also have better access to resources while in PD, be able to keep in better contact with my school community while out of the building, and better document my new learning to share with teachers and my students when I return to the school building. Additionally, the laptop would allow me to regularly have access to online learning communities, webinars, and technology support during my education graduate courses.
