it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Would you like to get a brand new car? but you have no roads to drive it on or no wheels to take you anywhere?
Well, that's how we feel with our school curriculum. We have places to go, but don't have the technology or resources to take us there.
I have a class where 1/4 of my students need special resources and having a computer for the whole class could enhance their learning by using a different media where they can see, hear, and interact in a way that no book can do.
In my classroom I have given on-line assignments to my students, but only 1 student accessed it. That tells a lot about their technology resources at home. As a teacher it is frustrating and leaves me with the need to provide that learning opportunity at school and to assure that my students are not deprived from the technological learning opportunities that exist today.
My Project
I am asking for a laptop because our school's Language Arts and Math curriculum has many on-line and technological resources that could make many lessons come alive, but they are not accessible to them because we do not have the resources to take advantage of them.
Through the use of a laptop, we could take advantage of the read aloud Cd's and look at the story as we hear it, we would also use it to play the interactive math stories at the beginning of each math lesson. We would also use it to look at pictures that could enhance our vocabulary words or use and create PowerPoint lessons.
The wireless Internet connection would allow us to access many of the resources already mentioned and many more resources available only on-line. My students could use it in pairs or use it alone to take advantage of individualized lessons. They could also access our curriculum's technology and take advantage of on-line assessments instead of the paper and pencil approach.
Our project would have a positive impact in the learning of my students by providing them with the means necessary to take advantage of technology resources that may provide a different venue for learning and to enhance our daily lessons.
Even if one student can use it at a time for 20 minutes and 5 students a day, you would provide access to current technology to my whole class in a week.
