This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love using technology. Unfortunately, we only have 2 old computers to share amongst all 28 students. They have to wait for long periods of time before they can have a turn.

My students attend a suburban school with many students being English Language Learners.

They are a diverse group in every sense of the word. Although they have different strengths and challenges, they all share an eagerness for learning. Due to budget cuts this year, my second grade class includes 8 additional students. Few, if any, additional supplies were given to support these students, and our 2 computers in the classroom are older than the students themselves!

My Project

With the laptop, my students will be able to conduct research and write reports on dinosaurs and animals. Students will be able to post photos from our field trips to our local science museum and our local nature center on our classroom webpage. They will also be able to use our accelerated reader program which inspires children to read books at their level and then take comprehension tests. The students will have opportunities to complete Internet-based projects, as well as word processing. Students will use the computer to access math games which will help them master second grade math concepts as well as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. The computer will allow me to differentiate the lessons according to each student's individual needs. It will provide portability and ease of use that will allow students to use it in a variety of locations when necessary.
