Our elementary school follows the achievement plus model which helps to meet the needs of all students academically as well as assisting families with resources. My 25 third graders are a diverse group of students that are full of energy. Sometimes this energy interferes with our learning. Many students in my classroom have had life experiences that cause them to need some time and space away from their peers. Now that we have flexible seating options, we could use some work trays. With the addition of these trays, the students will not only be able to find their own space but they will also be able to easily complete their work.
In our classroom, we have discovered that traditional seating doesn't work for all learners.
We would love to have options that allow students to take charge of their learning.
We know that traditional seating arrangements at desks or tables does not work for all students. Thanks to a previous DonorsChoose.org project, our classroom will be adding flexible seating this fall. The flexible seating will allow students to find their best work space as well as helping them to take charge of their learning. While we use technology for most of our work, there are still times that we use paper and pencil. Lap desks will give students their own personal work space. This will allow the students to be able to easily and comfortably complete their work, anyplace in the classroom.
