My students need 4 Surf Portable Lap Desks in order to complete tasks for various academic activities. These lap desks will add to our flexible seating in order to boost student performance and engagement.
My students come into our classroom every day full of energy, excitement and personality! They are full of questions and curiosity that drives their learning each day.
I teach at a Title I school in Central Virginia that has a high ESL population.
In my first year I had over a third of my class identified as ESL students speaking three different languages! We learn through hands-on, engaging activities that help build our social and academic language skills. Despite the obstacles that my students face, their willingness to be open-minded and passionate about their learning has allowed them to succeed.
My Project
The Surf Portable Lap Desks will add to the flexible seating that we already have in our classroom. With the hope of boosting student performance, flexible seating may also promote higher motivation and engagment because students get to make the choices about where they will do their best learning. These 4 Surf Portable Lap Desks will also be used during station time where a group a students will use the lap desks in order to complete independent work. If funded, these lap desks can also be used during our "choice time" in which students make their own choices about what they would like to do given a set of options. For example these students can choose to complete handwriting practice, clay, clipboards for drawing - all of which can be completed at our new lap desks!
