My Students
I teach 40 wonderful fifth grade students in math and science in the Chicago area. They come to school every day eager to learn and try new things! However, many of the students are coming from low-income homes which can sometimes make it difficult for them to have all of the necessary supplies. With that being said, the teachers and the school do as much as we can to provide everything they could need!
The students love to learn in a variety of different environments!
We do whole group discussion, hands on inquiry based learning, flexible seating, and small group work. I am so excited for this new year and can't wait to see all of the amazing things that they will accomplish!
My Project
This year will definitely be like none other. School this year will include, masks, temperature checks, and staying six feet apart in our classroom. With all that being said, I still want to give my students a great school year and make them feel as normal as possible! The LAP desks I want will allow my students to have flexible seating around the classroom while still staying distant from their fellow classmates. It allows them to feel more comfortable in their learning environment without sharing tables with the other students.
In addition to the lap desks it is crucial that every single student has their OWN materials.
My students come from low socio-economic homes and most of them are unable to bring in their own materials. For example, crayons, colored pencils, construction paper, pencils, binders, and expo markers are just a few of the things that they will need to have a successful year. To organize their things, the students will have their own three ring binder with a pencil pouch clipped in. This way they can then keep pencils, markers, colored pencils, scissors, etc. so that they do not feel as though they have to share materials. I am trying my best to find solutions to navigate through this year and I really think every student being able to have their own things will be key to keeping them safe and healthy!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
