Lanterns & Firecrackers & Dragons - Oh My!

Help me give my students additional supplies to create culturally inspired projects that help us to ring in the Year of the Dragon!

My Project

Here on the islands, we love to celebrate the Chinese New Year!

Please help me to share a few of the traditions of this special holiday through the creation of three culturally inspired projects...

1. Yellow Paper Lanterns (representing good luck) - fine motor skills strengthened: cutting and gluing.

2. Red & Gold Firecrackers (scare away evil spirits) - this project recycles empty toilet paper rolls and strengthens many fine motor skills such as cutting, gluing, stringing, and tying knots.

3. Dragon Puppets (to celebrate the year of the dragon!) - fine motor skills: coloring, cutting, and gluing.

These projects will teach a bit of culture and history to my students while they continue to incorporate the elements of art (line, color, shape) into their creations!

Although we utilize as many recycled materials as possible, we are still in need of a few items, such as craft glue, markers, cardstock, and clothespins. We appreciate your help and wish you GONG HAY FAT CHOY!
