My students need a touchscreen Thinkpad and an iPad Mini in order to give them greater access to more enriching language activities.

My Students
I work with students who have difficulty communicating with their peers and teachers. These are a great group of kids that can't completely express themselves, from mild articulation deficits to severe autism. Several of my students are nonverbal and struggle with the most basic concepts of communication. Regardless of the severity they are all being held back to some degree.
Communication is everything, it is the way these kids make friends, learn how to read and write, socialize and interact with teachers; yet, they are blocked from being about to communicate freely holding them back from fully participating in their education.
My Project
I am requesting a new iPad mini and a think pad, both of which students can access with touch technology. There are many great speech language enriching apps for students. The think pad would also give my higher level students access to be able to research and write as part of their language therapy. Having this technology opens a whole world to students who have difficulty communicating. Having access to touch technology greatly increases their interaction with language enriching programs.
Interacting with touch technology is highly motivating for my students.
My students will be able to learn basic cause and effect concepts, vocabulary, sentence structure, social pragmatic language, as well as structure of stories and narratives.
With this technology we will be able to research topics and concepts, as well utilize speech language apps to aid in speech therapy. For my more severe students we will be able to utilize basic cause and effect applications.
