This school year I will be teaching phonics to 40 students in a Title I Middle School. The program I will be teaching targets students with disabilities and English Language Learners. We have students who speak Spanish, Mandarin, and Chinese (just to name a few). My school services every student a free breakfast and lunch along with provided much of the population of supplies and gym uniforms. Our school is currently 25% students with disabilities and 15% English Language Learners.
My Project
My students must learn the sounds of the alphabet to be able to read. These CD players and headphones will allow them to listen to books on tape above their independent reading level to access the written language with success and to build their confidence!
By listening to books on tape their will hear the English language with inflection and fluency.
This will improve my students ability to read independently as well as improving their ability to access grade level text that they might not be able to read. My middle schoolers are eager to learn and need levels access the material.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
