My Students
This is my first year teaching in a middle school and I have learned so much about my students in such a short period of time. My students are hands on learners, meaning they love to use a variety of items and games during our speech sessions to sustain their attention and allow them a greater chance at processing various new topics. They absolutely love when they finally understand a topic or concept and their energy immediately radiates. My specific role as a speech therapist varies from student to student and therefor, the tasks I have for each student must meet their specific goals. One thing they all have in common is interest in real word situations, and activities allowing them to get creative and moving past text book work,
My Project
The students I have the privilege of teaching are all in middle school in grades 6-8th. However, some of the children in speech therapy are not functioning with the skills they should be by their age/grade level. I want to help further support their language skills by focusing on deficits they have in areas such as grammar, phonics and over all comprehension skills by using activities that facilitate real world growth.
By donating to my project you will help foster growth for students to have access to worksheets they can take home with them to practice skills that are troubling for them.
The materials I have included in my project are necessities for learning and participating hands on in speech class. With your support they will have access to new materials that are both engaging and easily accessible allowing them to take it with them from school.
