Every morning when my students enter the classroom they are ready and eager to learn. Our school is a very diverse setting where all students are welcome and loved. My classroom alone is full of students from over five countries. Many of whom are first-generation Americans. My students have to translate their homework to their parents, meet the social and cultural expectations at home and at school, and still find time to give me a hard time when I make a spelling mistake on a presentation. These kids are incredible. After taking an overnight camping trip with them earlier this year, I can honestly say I am truly excited for the future of the world. With these students leading us, it is going to be more innovative, full of kindness, and safer than ever before.
These 5th grade students are creative, hardworking, and have a strong desire to learn.
They have a lot of passion: trying new things in and out of the classroom, constant movement, collaborating, and making the world a better place!
My Project
Students in my classroom work hard every day to meet the standards that are put in front of them. The students will be using rubrics and success criteria to generate ideas to persuade others to visit their restaurant/shop.
Students will be "hired" to work on teams of 3-5.
Throughout this unit, the students will create a thesis statement, 3 reasons why their place of business is the "best in town" and eventually develop a script for a commercial to persuade customers to visit their shop.
Providing my students access to a Mac will allow them to take their learning to the next level. Using this technology will allow the students to take their ideas and scripts making them come to life.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
