One of the greatest aspects of teaching is learning from others. I am very lucky to teach a very diverse classroom of children. Children who are from different countries, have different backgrounds and all bring different experiences to our classroom. One of the things that all of my children have in common is that they love learning!
I call my students my kids because over the course of a year, I come to care not only about their learning, but also their well-being.
Our school consists of about 300 students and contains grades K-5. We are a close knit community of teachers and learners and love to work with each other. My students are risk takers and enjoy trying out the latest technology, science experiment...or Magic Tree House Book!
My Project
I am fortunate to work in a district where teachers share. If someone is moving to another grade level or retiring, they often give their materials to other teachers in the school. My students are hands-on learners and enjoy real world experiences.
Over the past ten years I have accumulated some great supplies through donations but find that I have some gaps in the area of language arts.
The students in my classroom read on a Kindergarten to third grade level and I want to provide materials on their individual levels. I also have students with special needs and English Language Learners in my class.
The materials I have requested will aide me in reaching every student at their own level. This form of differentiated instruction is key to getting kids reading and comprehending on level by the time they finish second grade.
Here's some information on the items I am requesting. The hands-on learning kits are great for reading and partner research. The language practice cards will reinforce vocabulary and grammar. The writing instant learning center and vocabulary cards are great for keeping kids engaged. The comprehension daily practice cards, comprehension paired texts, and sequence and write story tiles cover many of the standards in 2nd grade in a fun way. My students also love performing readers theater plays for each other which helps with fluency so I have requested this kit as well.
