This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a school where 90% of students receive free or reduced-price lunch. My students are aged 3-5 years old, and all have Individualized Education Plans. My students are curious, full of energy and life, and always eager to learn! They love learning new skills and are proud of their own successes and those of their peers. My ultimate goal is to give my students a positive learning experience in a school setting, setting the foundation for a love of learning, and a love of school.

Students learn best through hands-on experiences and through the process rather than always having to produce a product.

We are a classroom family learning patience, empathy, and acceptance for everyone.

My Project

My special education Pre-K students need scientific materials such as a Bugs World Insect Marbles with magnifying glasses, Rainbow Pebbles Math Activity, Live Earthworms, Ladybug Larva to put in our growing kits, butterfly craft kits, and books about bugs so they can have hands-on opportunities to learn about the life-cycles of insects and bugs. Our children see bugs in real life, but how many of them have opportunities to watch the life-cycle happen before their eyes and can touch and explore worms? Many of my students are speech and language impaired and this is a great opportunity to build their language and vocabulary with real-life experiences.

Students will listen to stories about butterflies, ladybugs, and worms, learn the importance of these insects, and to have hands-on experiences with life-cycle manipulatives, watch the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly, and take care of our classroom visitors until it’s time to set them free in our butterfly garden.

Students who have hands-on experiences and are able to touch and explore materials will gain an understanding of the life-cycle of bugs and insects more so than those who just read about it in a book or watch a video.

By donating to my project, you will provide my students scientific materials for them to explore and learn about a few different insects, care for our little creatures, and provide my students with not only the knowledge of the life-cycle but also teach them to be kind to all creatures large and small. Thank you for your consideration for my project and hope you can help bring my vision for hands-on bug exploration to life for my 3 to 5-year-old students.
