Help me give my students a variety of literacy and song activities to help increase their speech and language skills and help them to develop a love of reading!
My students are extra special to me. As a speech language pathologist working with students with special needs I am always looking for ways to increase their speech and language abilities as well as their social skills. My students are not conventional learners. I work with students with a variety of different learning challenges. Some of my students are verbal, some are non verbal, but all have something important to say. I aim to create personalized lessons for each of my students so they can thrive and reach their maximum growth potential!
My Project
As a speech-language pathologist, I work each day with children who are not always conventional learners. While my sessions are mostly 1 on 1, I get the opportunity each day to work in a small group setting with some of my favorite little friends. During these sessions, I love incorporating literacy activities as well as songs. These always include manipulatives for the children to actively participate in the activity and lesson regardless of their abilities.
Children develop language through watching, listening, and practice.
Singing and reading to young children can help them develop early language and literacy skills, such as phonological awareness, auditory discrimination, and vocabulary development. This can be achieved by providing the music and words, providing hands-on props, and helping your child do the motions to the songs. This also helps develop students' literacy development. Literacy is larger than just reading and writing, and it also includes listening, speaking, and social skills that are relevant to communication. My students will love these amazing new books and storytelling kits which will make our songs and stories come alive and help them to actively participate in our sessions. The mobile storage cart will help keep all of our materials neat and organized!
