Help me give my students access to language and literacy activities to promote phonological skills and pre-reading in the classroom.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are ages 4-5 years old, they are very spontaneous and enjoy learning and hands-on activities that promote and develop early language skills . My students also enjoy phonic games where they are able to recognize the letters of the alphabet and exhibit reading skills , where they are able to develop concrete knowledge of literacy, and how to manipulate it in a activity. Our classroom is very inclusive and supports all developmental domains. My students are very resilient and take advantage of all learning opportunities. In our classroom learning community, we serve students from various backgrounds who can greatly benefit from academic instruction that build language and literacy skills, I have many students who identify as ELL's (English Language Learners). Having access to materials to enhance their learning with greatly improve their confidence in speaking in front of others.
Having access to these materials will help build student's fluency in early -reading, alphabetic knowledge, phonological awareness and confidence in using language to articulate in the classroom environment, especially for my ELL students (English Language Learners). I will be able to formulate small group learning and use materials to facilitate students misconception in regards to literacy. The language and literacy instant centers will also promote student guided learning where students can use these materials in small group setting and complete checks for understanding among themselves, with monitoring from myself as the teacher.
Students will be able to learn about alphabet sounds, rhyming words, onset fluency and blends.
The literacy kits will help prepare students for kindergarten through access to early literacy skills that are aligned with Florida Birth-Five Developmental Standards. Students will also be also to identify and use abstract thinking to formulate their own ideas about literacy and what that means to them. Students who identify as ELL will be able to communicate better after receiving lessons in phonological skills, which ultimately lead to growth mindset among those learners.
