Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

1st grade students want to keep organic materials from going to landfills. They want to teach the school how easy it is to compost and help the Earth.

My students come from various multicultural backgrounds in a Title 1 school.

They come from various parts of town by bus. They want to learn how they can make a difference in the lives of their schoolmates now and for the future. They know how important it is to reduce the carbon footprint. They want to make a difference in their community.

My Project

Students will help create compost bins using organic materials that would otherwise by taken to the local landfill. They need trash bins with lids because they live in the city. A thermometer will help them find the temperature using math skills. They will use calendar skills by learning about time. They will do science by watching the organic materials become soil and get hands-on experience with natural resources.

My students will acquire the knowledge that each one of them can make a difference to save the Earth at any age.

They will be active participants in showing the rest of the school population how easy it is to compost with the proper materials. Their families will also learn about composting and how they can do it in the city!
