My Students
Do you remember playing with your favorite toy or wearing your favorite shoes everyday? My classroom's most important medium of learning, the projector, needs replacement lamps from being used everyday!
Most of my students are from low income and high poverty areas.
Some of them have speech difficulties and learning disabilities, while a few cannot speak English at all. Yet despite these challenges, many of my students are motivated and eager to learn. They come to school everyday on time. Some of my students want to be doctors and vets, while others want to be lawyers and teachers. Most of them want to be all these great things because they want to help people. My students have these goals in life, and they've even dedicated their goals to their mom, dad, siblings, and to themselves. However, because they belong to low income communities, most of them have not been exposed to a lot of opportunities outside of their neighborhood. So by sparking their interest in science, I hope to open up opportunities that they would otherwise not have in their communities.
My Project
As soon as students enter class, they immediately look for the warm up projected on our classroom LCD projector, which was generously donated by donors from DonorsChoose. Ever since the arrival of our class projector, my 7th graders have relied on it as a major tool to understand and visualize science. From cells to genetics, to evolution and human anatomy, we learned through videos, pictures, and interactive websites that's helped us learn. The projector serves as the main medium of transfer of information in class, as it provides a clear and understandable way for all students to achieve.
After two years since it was first opened, the projector is in need of a replacement lamp, which is costly. A new lamp would serve another 2 years of science education, serving 350+ middle school students who are eager to take science class for the first time. With the revival of the classroom projector, we will be learning, creating, and asking questions in science class!
I am requesting 2 projector lamps to replace the ones in our projector.
Similar to the importance of whiteboards, markers, and paper, the class LCD projector serves as an essential classroom supply that has been used to its fullest value.
Now, the projector that has served as a visual and auditory medium for my students is dying and needs replacement lamps so it can continue to aid student learning and spark student interest in science! Please help us with this important piece of resource to ensure that students are learning.
