This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are high school students with different abilities. They are amazing young individuals; hard-working and respectful to everyone.
They see the world from a different point of view and mostly through pictures.
The daily schedule is made up of checklists with pictures that they follow precisely. I have a range of grades, from 9th - 12th. It is amazing how they help each other every day and put smiles on everyone they meet. Even though many have disabilities that are different, they always come together as a team. Each has their own personality that makes the class interesting. One is very good at music and can read any music notes, loves band. Another one loves dinosaurs and everything related to them.
We are a Title I school and don't have the resources that some other schools have but we find ways to be creative with what we do have. As a teacher I never want my students to feel that they wish to be at another school.
My Project
These laminators will help my high school life skills students learn a skill that they can use in an employment setting. Many of my students gain part-time employment after graduation. We teach them many skills: copying, answering phones, filing …etc. I think adding laminating to that list would be great. They can also use it in the classroom to laminate their visual schedules and other important information. Most of my students have a hard time with digital work (using computers) and since this is a hands-on activity it will add to their progress.
