This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My preschool-aged, special needs students are working hard to learn communication skills. They rely on visual supports for expressing themselves. Their mealtime placemats have a selection of core words (most frequently used words) that are represented with pictures children can point to when they want to make a request or a comment. When they need help with their juice box, they can point to "open." When they would like another cookie, they can point to "more." They can tell us when they have had enough by pointing to "all done." These visual supports empower children and reduce frustration. Communication is so powerful! Help us replace their worn out visuals with a laminating machine big enough to protect an 11x17 inch placemat, as well as adding some chewies and fidgets..
