My Project
My young students with Autism respond well to visual supports! My students need visual supports such as a visual schedules using picture symbols, super symbols, symbols on the walls, and symbols at their desks. My students also use symbols to communicate, by selecting the picture symbol of the item they want and handing it to a communicative partner. Visual symbols serve as a visual reminder of what is expected for when my students are in the school building, at home, and also while out in the community. Visual supports are essential for maintaining positive behavior in different environments. In order to provide these important visual supports, we need a laminator to seal and protect our visual symbols so they can be used over and over again!
My students with Autism need a laminator in order to laminate and protect their visual symbols!
Unfortunately, our previous laminator has broken and cannot be fixed. Therefore, we need a new one to ensure consistency of programs and visual supports in our classroom.
Students with Autism learn best through the use of visual supports! This includes Super Symbols to help support language development. A laminator is vital in this process! We need to print and laminate all our symbols for immediate use! Visual symbols are used to help my students visually prepare for transitions throughout the day. Visual symbols are also used to help my students with Autism know what is expected of them throughout the day. Visual symbols, such as "sit", "hands down", or "feet down" are important to remind students of when they should be in their seats, that hands should be kept to themselves, and that their feet should be on the floor. We need a laminator to protect these essential visual symbols for everyday use!
