My Project

My young students with Autism respond well to visual supports! My students need visual supports throughout their day. These visual supports include visual schedules to help organize the sequence of activities, super symbols for communication and understanding, adapted books for understanding content, social stories for understanding social situations, etc. My students also use symbols to communicate, by selecting the picture symbol of the item they want and handing it to a communicative partner. Visual symbols serve as a visual reminder of what is expected for when my students are in the school building, at home, and also while out in the community. Visual supports are essential for maintaining positive behavior in different environments.

In order to provide important visual supports for our students, we need laminating sheets to seal and protect our visual symbols so they can be used over and over again!

Students with Autism learn best through the use of visual supports! Visual symbols help support language development. Laminating sheets are vital in this process! We need to print and laminate all our symbols for immediate use! Visual symbols are used throughout the day, therefore they need to be durable! Some are used in schedules to help my students visually prepare for transitions throughout the day. Visual symbols, such as "sit", "hands down", or "feet down" are important to remind students of when they should be in their seats, that hands should be kept to themselves, and that their feet should be on the floor. Visual symbols such as "Great job", "Hello", and "Goodbye" are also used frequently with our students. We need laminating sheets to protect these essential visual symbols for everyday use!
