This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Kindergarten students are so happy to come to school. They are smiling everyday when I give them a hug. We do a lot of our learning on the rug. Our rug is so old and stained, it doesn't make us anxious to sit on it and learn.

Our school is an older, inner city school.

We have one of the highest population of culturally diverse students, as well as low income families. We do our best to make it a clean and inviting place to learn, but our furnishings need updating. As with most schools, we are over crowded. We have over 900 students in pre-K through 4th grade. I

My Project

Imagine how excited the children would be to walk into our room with a brand-new rug. They would be excited. In our Kindergarten class we gather on the rug several times a day for whole group instruction. They use the rug for center time also. We sing and dance to learning songs there as well as gather to sing our goodbye song at the end of each day.

We try to make our room an inviting place.

I've repainted to walls and book shelves. I clean as much as I can. I have shampooed this rug 6 times myself, but its just too old. We would LOVE to learn on a new rug. Please help us.
