Welcome to the Lakota Nation! We are the scholars of Room 113, a family of risk-taking, persevering mathematicians!
My freshmen students are enrolled members of the Sicangu Oyate Lakota Nation, living and learning on the Rosebud Reservation of South Dakota!
Students assigned to my classroom are those who have traditionally under-achieved in math and are significantly behind their same-age peers. Many of these students score at the 5th Grade mathematical proficiency level or below, live in high poverty, face extraordinary challenges in their everyday lives, and do not have confidence in their mathematical abilities. In our classroom, we work to change these mindsets and grow the confidence we need to succeed!
My Project
Our students have been caught in a cycle of hopelessness and lack of confidence in their mathematical abilities. It is of dire importance that we integrate manipulatives and review materials into everyday class to make learning these skills more fun! Rather than rote memorization of steps and procedures, the supplies we've selected will allow us to turn our learning and review activities into fun games that disguise learning with play!
Donating these manipulatives and supplies will make such an INCREDIBLE difference to my students!
With all the obstacles my students are already forced to overcome in their everyday lives, they deserve to feel confident and successful in the classroom! Please help us break the cycle of poverty so we can achieve our goals and reach the futures we deserve!
