Lahaina Keiki Need Love

Help me give my students art/craft supplies, snacks, games, and fun prizes. The Lahaina wildfire took almost everything we own, so I want to fill my classroom with as much love, fun, laughter as possible. Mahalo!

My Project

Aloha! I teach middle school in Lahaina and we've all just recently lost our homes and everything we own. Our school is fortunately ok, but I'm hoping to really make my classroom even more full of love and fun than ever before. I'm primarily asking for craft/art supplies because I aim to give students fun activities to let them practice mindfulness and to create beauty after being surrounded by so much loss and destruction. The times I've incorporated art in past years, I've seen several students find a new passion, or even see that they are capable of making something beautiful. They can have a chance to tune out of the chaos and tune in to creation.

In addition to all of the fun crafts we could do together, I've asked for board games and snacks so that when my students come into my room, they feel a sense of peace and home - I want to provide as many opportunities for community building and fun and laughter after tragedy as much as possible.

I teach 8th grade, so they will be the primary receivers, but I will also be using these supplies for my CIRCLES club that will be open to grades 6, 7, and 8.

My students are special because they embody the Aloha spirit. They are so kind and funny, but most have very little, especially now. They love fiercely and help each other. They're stoked to help others when given opportunities and have each other's backs. They've been so strong through this insanely difficult time, and I want to make sure they feel the support for all directions. Mahalo for your consideration and donations. We are so grateful. Aloha.
