it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Environmental science is all about hands-on learning! We use critical thinking to solve mysteries and analyze things. I want to give my students the chance to use their knowledge and apply it to real-life experiences, such as gardening and exploring owl pellets. It is one thing to talk about the effects of pollution on the world and its organisms but it is another to see it happening with our own garden. I hope to use these purchased tools to provide a more interesting version of science than before.
They are ever so curious about science and are always thrilled when they can learn in more hands-on experiences.
My students absolutely love the unit where they get to grow their own plant. It is something they look forward to every time they enter my room. And the plants are grown to be used for multiple lessons in my class where we conduct tests and learn the appropriate care for each type of plants.
As for the use of owl pellets, they will be used to examine the inner workings of a bird's digestive tract. Each organism is different in how we select our prey and digest them. Birds are unique because their system for eating is completely different than mammals and other organisms. I hope to allow use this resource as a way for students to practice re-articulating bones of rodents which will lead nicely into the last unit on mammals.
