This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an inner city magnet school, specializing in preparing the students for a college or university. We are a majority minority school, with over 61% Hispanic and the majority of our students are considered economically disadvantaged. Out school draws students from all over the district, rather than from one small area. They are very bright young people who are taking advantage of the opportunities available at a very advanced school.

Even with all of that, we have a 100% graduation rate, and nearly 100% college admission rate, with nearly all of our students receiving at least one scholarship offer.

My Project

Our Advanced Placement Chemistry and Physics programs use many different types of laboratory experiments. We make a lot of use of technology based experiments, for which we use laptops to both control the sensors used in the experiments, and to analyze the data. These two laptops will complete our set, and allow us to have much more reasonable sized groups.

As it stands now, our lab groups are often 5 to 8 students, these will bring it down to 3 or 4 for most of the experiments.

The smaller the group of students, the more each one is able to contribute, and the more they will learn from the work that they do.
