My Students

My students want to have a safe and fun classroom. Sometimes our classroom sacrifices fun for the sake of safety. On top of that, keeping kids safe can sap their innate desire for knowledge. This opportunity would balance safety and fun for students who are thirsty for hands-on learning.

My students are full of potential, love, and positive attitude.

They come to school at 7:30 with tired eyes, wanting to be woken up to their natural desire for learning. While they wear a school uniform, it can be easy to overlook the great deal of individuality that each of them has. Some of them have just recently awoken their love for science. This project would nurture that growth.

My Project

The safety goggles would be worn for any liquid experiments. The goggles would be worn even if we're not working with any potentially dangerous chemicals. I want the kids to learn the value of safety-first behaviors. The rockets would be an end-of-unit project. Though rockets are more complex than the simple machines that our curriculum has them learning, they will not hesitate to work hard to understand how the rockets work. As we build the rockets, the class will also have direct instruction about the forces at work that propel the rocket skyward.

We all remember hours spent in classes where the common denominator for learning was a textbook.

Some teachers went beyond the minimum amount of work that constitutes learning and gave us the chance to experience learning. My students, like any other, love getting their noses out of books and having work in their hands. This project will increase their love of learning and the group work will increase their ability to work in a team.
