Help me give my students two kitchen carts to use for lab tables and storage of lab equipment.
I teach seventh-grade science in a small, rural Tennessee town. We are in a high poverty area, and many of my students do not always have the same opportunities as students in urban areas.
My students are inquisitive, eager to learn, and love new challenges!
Our new curriculum is project-based and enables all students to work at their own pace through the required work. Progress is monitored through checkpoints, and students can easily see how they are progressing through their 7th grade work.
We have 'mini' lessons during the week which I base on student curiosities and demonstrate science concepts we are learning or reviewing.
As a teacher, it is my responsibility to expand my students' horizons. Providing them with activities that stretch their brains and provide them with a challenge will motivate and engage my students.
Our classroom is not a traditional science classroom. While we have tables instead of desks, it is often difficult to move about our room and engage in science experiments.
We do not have adequate storage or space to conduct lab experiments.
Using a kitchen island on wheels will enable my students to have a flat stainless steel top to work on, storage underneath for their lab equipment, and wheels to move the item out of the way when we are not using it!
This year's curriculum involves an introduction to chemistry, so we are engaging in highly involved student activities!
