Help me give my students the sieves, storage containers, hand strainers and other lab materials they need to conduct hands-on investigations.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach at a Title I school in Queens, New York where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Our school serves students in grades 6-8 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers, and a safe learning environment. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I work with students who are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.
My students don't wear their struggles on them, they walk into class every day ready and are eager to learn with smiles on their faces even though they have struggled academically most of their lives because of their various disabilities.
As a Special Education Teacher, I see the learning struggles my students have to overcome. I also serve a very high percentage of ELL (English Language Learner) students. Many of my students receive services for English as a Second Language, in addition to their disability.
With all these obstacles set before them, not having access to helpful resources should not be one of them.
When language is a struggle, hands-on learning is key. It allows students to understand vocabulary through visuals, exploration and manipulation. However, lab investigations require a lot of materials. Many of these materials are consumables and can only be used once during exploration. For example, students learn scientific tools and mixtures through a lab. This lab requires sand, iron filings, filter paper, sieves, strainers, magnets in sandwich bags. Another lab allows students to explore thermal energy and heat transfer. This lab requires coffee cups with lids, string and washers. Our struggle is once these materials are used they are unable to be reused.
By supporting this project you are giving my students access to knowledge. You are allowing them to understand science even if vocabulary and language is a struggle.
