My Project
Climate change can feel like an abstract global issue, but this lab brings it directly into our classroom through meaningful, hands-on learning. My AP Environmental Science students will explore how changes in atmospheric chemistry, specifically increases in greenhouse gases, affect air temperature. This experiment allows students to observe the greenhouse effect in real time using simple, elegant tools.
To bring this lesson to life, we need basic but essential materials: handheld thermometers and beakers.
These tools will allow students to simulate atmospheric conditions, collect temperature data, and analyze how human activities contribute to global warming. The lab aligns with national science standards and encourages critical thinking, data literacy, and environmental responsibility.
Many of my students come from low-income households and don’t have access to high-quality lab experiences outside of school. With your support, they’ll not only gain a deeper understanding of climate science, but also develop the skills and confidence to become future environmental leaders.
