"I believe the children are our future. Teach them well and they will lead the way." -Whitney Houston. The children ARE our future and so is technology. A classroom iPad will help my students to realize the importance of technology in their education.
I'm a fifth grade teacher in an urban school district in Connecticut.
Although we live in a wealthy state these children come from very low income families. Everyday the children at my school are supplied breakfast, a snack, and lunch; for some these meals are the best of the day. These children look to school as their "Safe Place." I hope to make the students feel comfortable and look forward to coming to school by fostering learning, being compassionate, and learning about each of my students academic and personal needs.
My Project
Working as a teacher has taught me many things that they cannot teach you in school. One thing that schools try to teach you is that every child has their own diverse needs to learn. Although I knew this in theory, having my own class has showed me that it is difficult to always modify work based on every child's needs. The use of an iPad in my classroom will help me to meet my students' diverse needs. The iPad can be used in my classroom for various reasons including to read books to students who have trouble reading themselves, or for typing for students who struggle with their writing. Additionally, students can use various learning programs such as Lexia Reading or Symphony Math that will work at each students instructional level. Most importantly an iPad in my classroom will teach my students to love learning.
Donations to this project will help my classroom get an iPad.
An iPad will help my students, because they will be able to use programs that make learning fun. This classroom iPad will help my students to realize that they can have fun while learning and hopefully help them to foster a love of learning.
