I teach primary grades at a very large, rural public school. 48% of our school is economically disadvantaged. All of our students receive free breakfast and free lunch. My kiddos love to learn. They are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging activities. They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically.
My students come from all different types of backgrounds, some with regular exposure to books and stories, others with very little outside the classroom experience.
Truly, they are my inspiration to be the best teacher I can be!
My Project
My students come to school full of life and ready to learn! Just as adults get tired of sitting in hard chairs all day, students do, too! They need more flexible, comfortable seating options to enhance student engagement and learning. Studies show that students learn better when they are physically active and comfortable. Students are able to sit, stand, kneel, etc. on whatever they choose.
The options I am requesting will give my students the opportunity to sit comfortably and move around while they are learning, which not only keeps them engaged, but keeps their focus on what is being taught!
A rectangular table that is low to the floor will be used with the wobble cushions or students can kneel at the table if they'd rather. Also, students will be able to use clipboards if they would rather when doing written work. The reading center will provide another option for students who like sit in bean bags and read. This project would significantly help my students stay engaged in our learning throughout the day. I want them to feel comfortable and at home in our classroom. I cannot wait to see all of the things we can do with flexible seating!
