My Project

Hands-on learning. Educators know this tried and true style of teaching can be highly effective. Our school is creating opportunities for students to be hands-on learners outside the classrooms while showing our staff how much they are appreciated.

Life skills and pre-vocational skills are an important part of educating our students.

In the fall our team decided to introduce a coffee cart each Friday for our staff to enjoy. The cart goes to each classroom providing a well-deserved treat to our hard-working staff. It has become a huge success and the demand is great!

The "Koffee Kart" provides students opportunities to take orders, count money (donations), interact with customers (school staff) in addition to making and serving beverages. Most of our students receive special education support and the skills they use providing coffee to staff supports their IEP goals. We do not charge the staff for their beverages, but accept donations. All of the donations go directly towards the supplies we need to maintain the program. We average about $30/$40 dollars a week which is enough to keep the program going, but not enough for additional supplies. We currently have a waiting list of students who want to participate. Our dream is to expand the program to include more students and be able to integrate more regular education students with our special education students.
